LAMENTATION IN VUK'S WORKS

Abstract

While he was writing down the customs and beliefs of the Serbs, Vuk S. Karadzić collected and recorded a number of laments. Some of them are accom- anied by hecessary explanations. Laments are an integral part of the funeral tual. They express in the strongest and the most powerful way the griel and sorrow because of the death of the person that is lamented for. Vuk wrote down those laments in Risan, Kaiteli Montenegro (Pastrovići) and Zagorje (so-called Zagorje dirges).
