CHARACTERISTIC OF THE HITHERTO ETHNOLOGICAL STUDY OF FAMILY IN KOSSOVO
Abstract
In reviewing the basic elements and characteristics of the ethnological study of the family in Kossovo, this contribution indicates that it is necessary to undertake further investitagions of the problems related to familial structure and life. Having analysed the works dealing with the stated topics in the give region, it was possible to conclude that the scientific interests were primarly focused on the investigation of a single form of traditional familial organization, that is an yadruga, the extended family group. The approach was statical, and the problem of the familial structure and organization were regarded isolated from the entire relevant socio-cultural context, while the historical development, if it were considered at all, was interpreted in terms of the evolutionary theory. Taking into consideration the lack of wider theoretical and methodological framework, as well as the fragmentary character of the hitherte ethnological investigation of family in Kossovo, it is easily perceived that there exixts a strong need for more systematic and complex research to be carried out, one of its essential requirements being the study of total relations, activitites, and values through which the existance and functioning of a family as a unique socio-economic and culturally determined group is expressed.
